'Young Monks'-a painting by v.s.gopalakrishnan-acrylic on canvas
The above painting titled 'Young Monks' done by me, is laced with layers of meanings. These young boys are made to be different from other boys of their age. The other boys would perhaps be spending hours every day playing cricket. These two are not that fortunate.
They have been victims of 'catch them young'!
These two boys are made to imbibe spirituality when they know little about life! One can renounce only when one has something to renounce.
These kids are close to the snows, and are terribly, terribly isolated. They can't run away! They have no options!
Yet, religions have their own ground rules not only for survival but for propagation. Anyway, the picture above projects some sane serenity and innocence.
This painting was on a wall in the WTCA (World Trade Centers Association) Office on the 77th floor of Tower 1 of WTC Buildings, New York. It became a casualty to 9/11!

Hi Teedee,
You are right. These young monks are unspoilt, unpampered and unexposed to the material world, and they generally look content and even happy!

When you see the young monks in the monastries and gompas , their cherubic red-cheeked faces seem quite content as if resigned to their fate.
Sad about the destruction and loss. All that's left are memories ...and in your case -a photograph.

Hi Gopal,
Yep, I was a bit busy this week. But I read your blogs quietly.
Lucky Mr. Tozzoli! My friend of 19 years escaped from the first building that day. His company lost the most number of people sadly.
Speaking of my next blog....you must read my previous one. You haven't read it yet. It is titled "A Valentine Vacancy". Appreciate your comment there.

Sorry, it should read Guy F. Tozzoli, or simply Guy Tozzoli.

Goldie,
Ya, I see you have wings!
Now I will have to SERIOUSLY make more paintings, so you can have a choice.

Hi Ranjini,
Thanks for your visit! You seem to have been hibernating?? Must be very cold out there!
I presented this painting to Mr.Guy T. Tozzoli, President of the World Trade Centers Association, New York, at a conference I was attending in Boston some 10 years ago. I was then the Executive Head of WTC, Mumbai. Mr.Tozzoli was instrumental in the setting up of the Twin Towers. He was luckily late for office (57th floor, Tower 1) on 9/11. He saw the buildings on fire from his car from a distance.
Looking forward to your next blog.
